Care Communications President, Patricia Thierry Sheridan, Elected to the American Health Information Management Association Board of Directors

Chicago, August 7, 2006 – Care Communications, Inc., a nationally recognized leader in healthcare information management, today announced its President, Patricia Thierry Sheridan MBA, RHIA has been elected as a new Director to the American Health Information Management Association’s (AHIMA) Board of Directors.

“AHIMA is the premier association of health information management (HIM) professionals and I look forward to serving as a Director,” said Patricia Thierry Sheridan, MBA, RHIA and president of Care Communications. “As patient privacy, data standards, changes in reimbursement systems and the migration to the electronic health record continue to change the landscape for healthcare organizations, the HIM industry will continue to be an increasingly important part of effective, safe, and efficient healthcare delivery for organizations around the country.”

AHIMA’s new Board members will take office on January 1, 2007. Elected by members of the AHIMA, directors each serve a three-year term. The Board of Directors governs the Association, sets strategy and direction, and maintains fiduciary responsibility. AHIMA’s key initiatives currently include furthering the adoption of electronic health information management (e-HIM®), advancing clinical healthcare terminologies and classifications, building a workforce for the health information transformation, and advancing personal health records. The AHIMA Board of Directors consists of 12 elected positions, including nine directors.
Ms. Sheridan has held volunteer roles in state and national HIM organizations including participation in AHIMA e-HIM® Standards Task forces. She co-authors the monthly column, “Hands-on Help” in the publication “Advance for Health Information Professionals.”  Ms. Sheridan serves as faculty for AHIMA’s leadership program: Leadership for the 21st Century: Leading the way to e-HIM®.
