Care Communications Celebrates 30 Years of Health Information Management Excellence

Premier consulting and staffing company supports hundreds of leading healthcare organizations

Chicago, August 11, 2006 – Care Communications, Inc., a nationally recognized leader in healthcare information management (HIM), today celebrates its 30th anniversary. Care Communications provides a comprehensive set of HIM solutions and leadership training and development to healthcare organizations and is considered one of the leading electronic HIM (e-HIMTM) consulting resources available today and one of the industry’s foremost authorities on medical records coding.

“Since it was established thirty years ago, Care Communications has been committed to providing superior quality solutions to help healthcare organizations throughout the country improve compliance, enhance financial performance and make transformational change a reality,” said Leslie Ann Fox, MA, RHIA, FAHIMA and CEO of Care Communications. “We’ve maintained a commitment to a value centered approach throughout the years to build a strong track record of excellence in the industry.”

Care Communications was founded August 11, 1976 by Leslie Ann Fox, MA, RHIA, FAHIMA, Walter Imbiorski, PhD, and Gerry Stearns, MSPH. The company began by providing training and quality control services to hospitals. Early on, Care Communications created best practices and publications to help hospitals better manage patient medical record information and conducted seminars for the advanced training of audit committee assistants and quality assurance professionals.

In the 1980’s, helping the industry transition to the prospective payment system and diagnosis-related groups (DRGs), Care Communications launched its consulting, temporary coding and cancer registry services and developed its first software package, CodeMaster+, one of the first knowledge-based encoders for HIM departments developed to improve the accuracy of coded data. Throughout the 1990’s, Care Communications established its HIM staffing and consulting services and expanded its technology offerings to enable HIPAA compliance in remote medical coding and complementary services.

By the turn of the 21st century, Care Communications had solidified its position as a leader in HIM, introducing their e-HIM consulting services and unveiling CARECoding.com to address the growing demand for remote coding services. In 2003, the Care Communications Leadership Center was established, and Care Communications became the exclusive provider of Systems-based LeadershipTM training for the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Through this partnership, Care Communications has provided in-depth leadership training to more than 200 leaders in the healthcare industry, providing a roadmap for successfully leading change within their organizations.
