Care Communications, Inc. (CARE) has been a long time supporter of the professional development of HIM students and recent graduates. The New HIM Professionals Team was created in 2005 to solidify and expand these efforts. It is our goal to strongly support the HIM profession by building relationships with students and recent graduates, and by offering guidance, direction, mentoring, and financial support through scholarship programs to new professionals. The New HIM Professionals Team force offers support for HIM students and new professionals through the following opportunities:
CARE HIM Student Outreach Program speaker engagements The transition from student to professional can be challenging. That is why it can be helpful to hear firsthand from someone who has gone through that transition themselves, has discovered their own road map, and is familiar with a variety of HIM professional experiences. Our HIM Student Outreach Program offers speaker engagements to increase awareness of the wide variety of professional opportunities to consider as students begin to envision their own career paths. This program consists of a speaker’s bureau for brief presentations to HIA or HIT student classes by CARE’s expert field consultants. The goal of these presentations is to inform students about non-traditional career options in HIM. CARE consultants are honored to speak to the next generation of HIM professionals. They share the stories of their professional journeys and suggest what students can do now to prepare themselves for launching their own careers after graduation. Our speakers explore the interests of new HIM professionals and learn how CARE can bring value to the future HIM professionals. Please take note that no costs are incurred by the sponsoring school; these presentations are underwritten by Care Communications, Inc. If you are interested in having a CARE consultant speak at your HIA or HIT program, please click here to submit a request or call: (800) 458-3544, ext. 149. CARE HIA Student Internship Program The CARE Internship Program combines practical experience in an HIM consulting and staffing company with one-on-one mentoring. The program enables a HIA student intern to gain two months of real world HIM work experience. This program also offers a year long mentoring relationship from credentialed CARE staff, through the student’s senior year and the first 6 months of professional life. One HIA student is selected each spring for a paid two month summer internship.
CARE HIA and HIT Certification Exams Scholarships CARE is committed to strengthening the HIM profession by supporting HIA and HIT graduates taking the certification examinations. We feel very strongly that professional credentials are an important part of our profession, and this program is our way of encouraging qualified graduates to become credentialed HIM professionals. To help address the growing need for qualified credentialed HIM professionals, CARE will be awarding two certification exam scholarships. One scholarship will be awarded for the RHIA exam, one for the RHIT exam.
